Hi, I’m Xiangtao Xiao (Shawn). I spent four years as a product manager working on B2B commerce, payments and settlement products. I am now a full-time student in NTU’s Master of Computing in Applied Artificial Intelligence programme in Singapore. I am looking for a six-month internship working on AI products or applied AI, and I am available immediately.
- What I bring: For four years, I worked at YSB, a leading B2B pharmaceutical marketplace in China. I understand commerce, payments and procurement, including how buyers, suppliers and platforms interact and how order, account, payment and fulfilment systems fit together. Optimising payment costs, negotiating with partners and exploring new business opportunities sharpened my understanding of costs, returns and what each partner needs. I know the software delivery process, from requirements and solution reviews through development, testing and release, and can work with business, design and engineering teams to bring solutions into use and achieve solid results.
- What I’m doing now: Building a desktop learning assistant and lecture transcription and study-note workflows, comparing models on the same input to see what works in practice. I write about what I learn here — AI agents, RAG, prompt engineering and transformers.
AI projects
DesktopPet and NTU-Learn Downloader · Independent projects · Sep 2026
- Built two tools with AI coding agents that I now use for classes and talks: a desktop pet assistant for chat, word lookup and live captions, and a course-recording workflow for transcription and bilingual subtitles. My post-session workflow turns recordings into study notes.
- Compared speech-recognition and translation models on real lecture audio, weighing terminology, readability, processing time and memory use. Chose different approaches for live captions and more accurate transcripts for later review.
- Kept transcription and translation mainly local, using Sonnet to extract terminology and write notes. Added code checks for numbers, quotations and timestamps so errors could be caught before I used the output.
Privacy policy text classification · Undergraduate thesis · 2020
- Classified app privacy-policy text, comparing Word2Vec and Doc2Vec representations with SVM and attention-based Bi-LSTM classifiers.
- Compared classification performance using F1 to understand how representation and classifier choices affected the results.
Product experience
YSB Inc. (HKEX: 9885) · Product Manager · Apr 2021 – Apr 2025; Apr – Jul 2026 B2B pharmaceutical marketplace. Rejoined in 2026 to lead risk analysis and investigation tools.
Risk analysis and investigation tools (Apr – Jul 2026)
- Led work to identify accounts used by manufacturers to monitor suppliers’ prices, while avoiding restrictions on legitimate pharmacy buyers who shared accounts or devices.
- Compared five rule configurations on 3.37 million records, combining more accurate IP location data with trusted-device filtering to increase risk-user detection by 6%.
- Put automated crawler-account blocking and release, data-based blacklist reviews and an investigation platform into use, with AI-assisted coding for the scripts and tools.
E-commerce platform (Jan 2024 – Apr 2025)
- Translated chain-pharmacy purchasing needs into a smart procurement workflow that matched a 300-item list in about 30 seconds and added roughly 600 key-account customers within a year. Also coordinated ERP integration with chain headquarters.
- Turned whole-case purchasing from a promotional experiment into a dedicated buying channel, covering pack-size rules, supplier listings and search.
- Iterated the PC storefront using customer-segment click and browsing data, replacing low-value features with more useful entry points. Click-through rates on the redesigned modules rose by about 200%.
Payments and settlement (Apr 2021 – Jan 2024)
- As the sole product manager for payments, led the migration to a bank-managed settlement solution with Ping An Bank, defining account structure, fund allocation and reconciliation workflows.
- Served as the primary product contact for Alipay, UnionPay, Ping An Bank and third-party payment providers, negotiating commercial terms and coordinating integrations, issue resolution and regular service reviews.
- Saved RMB 30.7 million in net payment processing costs in 2023 by negotiating provider rates, reworking payment routing and encouraging lower-cost payment methods.
- Grew the combined share of transaction value paid via quick bank-card payments and UnionPay QuickPass from about 5% to over 30% within a year, using checkout prompts and payment incentives.
- Used event tracking, user journeys, surveys and interviews to find friction in new payment methods, and worked with Alipay to improve the payment flow.
- Designed payment-channel monitoring and automated or one-click responses, bringing anomaly detection, alerts and handling to under a minute.
- Changes to fund flows affected several teams, so I worked with finance, legal, supply chain and engineering to resolve trade-offs and carry compliant solutions through to launch.
I’ve written up some of what I learned there: payment methods on domestic e-commerce platforms, cross-border payment, and anti-fraud and risk control.
